Rep. Damoose: Four downtown small businesses to receive new support
RELEASE|December 17, 2021

State Rep. John Damoose today congratulated four small businesses in Northern Michigan and the Eastern Upper Peninsula that have been awarded Match on Main grants to help them continue building their downtown businesses.

“From salons and flower shops to party stores and cafés, downtown small businesses are emblematic of our communities in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula,” said Damoose, of Harbor Springs. “Small-business owners and employees offer top-notch customer service each and every day, and it is great to see four local businesses receiving resources to help them build on their successes.”

Grants of $25,000 will be awarded to each business: Co-Ed Flowers and Gifts in Sault Ste. Marie; Tom and Dick’s Party Store in Petoskey; Hair Design Salon & Spa/Shine Boutique & Tanning in Cheboygan; and the planned Cheboygan Coffee Roasters in Cheboygan.

The state Match on Main program is administered by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Grants are awarded to reimburse new or expanding small businesses located downtown or in certain commercial areas in communities across the state. Expenses that are eligible for grant reimbursement include technical assistance, renovations, marketing and inventory, among others.

Damoose represents the 107th House District, which includes the counties of Chippewa, Mackinac, Emmet, and part of Cheboygan.
